loving life on a hikeI had a few spare minutes on my hands so I went to the Monsanto website and I found their pledge to all of us, the consumers:

At the heart of Monsanto is a very clear and principled code of conduct – one we expect all employees, contractors and management to live by every day. We operate under a genuine value system—our pledge—that demonstrates integrity, respect, ethical behavior, perspective and honesty as a foundation for everything we do.

A key part of fulfilling the promise of our value system is by engaging our communities in a significant and positive manner. Not only do we work hard to support the family farmer in a variety of ways, but we also:

  • ·         provide extensive educational programs – particularly in science and agriculture – for students around the world
  • ·         fund numerous research grants for graduate students
  • ·         work in partnership with government bodies, non-profit agencies and advocacy groups to make agriculture more sustainable

Then I dropped by the website for Chase Bank.  Here is what they have to say:
We’ve worked for over 210 years to not only provide innovative financial services for our customers, but also to help make their lives better.

I then swung by Shell Oil Company and they said pretty much the same thing, that they cared about the consumers and the environment and life was peachy in their neck of the woods.

Excuse me while I vomit.

Monsanto cares about family farmers?  About consumers?

Chase cares about us all?  Shell?

Do I have the word ‘sucker’ stamped on my forehead?  As my dad used to say, my name is Tucker, not Sucker!

Here is what I want from Monsanto, Shell and Chase:  I want honesty.  If they are screwing me so they can make billions in profits, then just tell me that.  I can at least respect them then for being honest.

I want to see their websites say something like this:

At Monsanto, we are only concerned with the bottom line. We don’t much care if our product is bad for your health as long as you buy it and keep buying it until you drop dead from our laboratory-produced unsafe food…..or….

At Shell Oil our business is gouging you for all that we can take.  We know you need our oil so we plan on charging ridiculous rates so that you can’t afford to eat or pay your mortgage or clothe your kids….or….

Chase Bank….we lead the world in tax loopholes and we own more politicians than any other banking institution in the world.

Now those are taglines I would believe. J

Have a great day my friends and thanks for stopping by.
