loving life on a hikeI had a rather interesting thing happen this morning and I thought I’d share it with you, since there is a message at the end that is worth considering.

I’ve been kicking around ideas about a book I want to write.  I was going to make it a collection of essays that I have written and call it something stupid like Reflections of a Coffee House Poet.  Anyway, I was reading my latest article to Bev last night, and she said it’s a shame I can’t figure out how to write a novel based on my articles.

I didn’t think much about it; in fact, I barely heard her; but I woke up this morning and the entire outline of the new novel was in my head based on Bev’s suggestions.  I am so very excited about it, but that’s not the point I wanted to make.

I love Bev.  I trust her and I listen to her, and when she speaks I know she has my best interests at heart, and so her words carry some validity automatically.  I have always been reticent to listen to the advice of others, and it is purely a trust issue with me….but….Bev I trust and so I listen.Train ride from Elbe to 018

Bev also has a dream of writing a children’s book, and she has a dynamite idea and rough outline for it.  The main problem is getting her to believe in her storytelling and writing abilities, and that is where I come in.  I try to give her encouragement and suggestions, and I know one day she will take the plunge and finish that book she has started.

What’s the point of this rambling?

It is pretty remarkable to be in a loving relationship.  I have failed so many times over the course of my life, and I never really understood the magic of love until I met Bev.  We have been together now for five years and yes, we have had rough times.  Take any two people who have been burned often and you will find trust issues, but somehow we stuck it out and made it work….and it really is a magical mystery tour that I enjoy daily.

I just wanted to share that with you.  If you are in a loving relationship then you know exactly what I am talking about.  If not, I hope one day you can experience it too.

One final note: thank you so much, those of you who voted for me for the Hubbie Award. I am very happy and humbled.  Receiving the praise of my peers is very important to me and I so appreciate the love and friendship I have received at HubPages.  I will try to never let you down.
